ORGAN DONATION

Lives are saved thanks to computer database

Pascale Baer-Lilla knows organ donation from very close. Her son Denis (18) died in a road accident, and his organs were retrieved to save lives. Alas, all obstacles (legislative, psychological, etc.) seem to be there for this generosity action to be made even more difficult. Pascale Baer-Lilla – who found by chance the track of the receiver of Denis’ heart (“Le Matin” of 1st November) – decided to transmit her experience. In October, she created the Foundation Pass The Baton. The idea ? Establish an electronic database of those wishing or not wishing to donate their organs, in the event of their death.
In her small chalet at the Montreux Xmas market (until tomorrow evening), Denis’s mother proposes a little hope for some one thousand patients who, year after year, are in need of a transplantation. Within about 20 days, she has distributed 3800 brochures on organ donation. Over one thousand people already signed in for being registered in the electronic database. The next step will be to find – if possible free of charge – premises (about 50 m2) to be able to organise and manage this far-reaching operation.
