Dear volunteers, friends and members,

A motion has been deposited to the National Council by Luc Barthassat CDP GE and we won a first phase!

On June 3^rd 2009, a majority vote has been ratified to put an inscription on drivers licences, identity cards and passports, according to the wishes of the Swiss population.

Nothing yet on health cards but we are working with OFAC, the Swiss pharmacists cooperative, and its partner Pharma Suisse. The OFAC project Abilis, takes its course.

This vote has to be ratified by the Council of States in one of their next sessions:

As soon as we know the date of the vote we will inform you on our Web Site.

In the meantime we ask everyone to pass the message to your friends, acquaintances, and co-workers, in a bid to contact members of the Council of States, in order to guarantee a favourable vote!

We can save lives! It’s up to us to convince our politicians and we will save millions to health insurance!

As a reminder: we obtained a majority in the Council of States in 2005, thanks to Past-president Mrs Christiane Brunner, and we missed by a few votes at the level of the National Council

This time around, for the second motion, we have the majority at the National Council and we need the ratification of the Council of States.

Your support is indispensable during the whole summer, we have to find people who know people, so that we can touch our politicians once and for all.

The choice of the Swiss people has to be known, respected, whether they are for or against it. It’s up to us to Pass the baton until the next session.

It’s our last straight line! We can do it together!

As soon as the date of the vote is official, there have to be press articles to influence and above all to make the position of the Swiss residents known. More than 90 % of the population has been asking for this for years.

We have been working together for a long time, there are more than 4 500 people that support the foundation, up to you to use your contacts and relations, mail, facebook etc. everything is welcome.

Thank you to let us know who the politicians are that you contacted, a we have a list of precise actions.

The Council of States has 46 members who represent the Swiss Cantons. The Cantons of Obwald, Nidwald, Basel-City, Basel-Country, Appenzell Outer Rhodes and Appenzell Inner Rhodes shall elect one Senator each, the other Cantons shall elect two Senators. Zurich, which has over 1 million inhabitants, elects two representatives as does Uri, which has roughly 35'000 inhabitants.

You will receive new paper donor cards, disributed by the OFSP (Federal public health office) in your letter box as of July 1^st 2007. All old cards are valid.

The goals of our Foundation remain the same, we still hope for an official  registration document.

On July 1^st 2007, the OFSP will send each family a brochure informing about organ donation, including a card for a new donor.

In any case, old cards remain valid should they be issued by Foundation Pass the Baton, As de Coeur or Swisstransplant.

The new cards will however include more details. It will be possible to mention the name of a trustworthy person who, in case of death, will be authorised to take a decision regarding the donation of your organs. You will also find new donor’s cards in pharmacies, drugstores, hospitals and Swisstransplant. Should your present card not be readable anymore, you may want to change it for a new one.

Foundation Pass the Baton motivation remains intact. We must give the opportunity to all to have an official document which expresses your choice without wasting time or having to validate it by others.

For the moment we are working hard in this objective, but in the meantime you must talk about your decision to your relatives and even friend to make it known to them in due time.

Don’t forget to carry your card with you or, even better, to have more than one in different places. The probability to be in a situation of need is 10 times higher than that of becoming a donor.

Your choice saves lives daily. Thank you for your generosity and…pass the baton!

Tuesday 17th February, 2004, statutory meeting of the Inner Wheel Club of Morges. Conference by Mrs S. OGAY, convinced and very pleasant volunteer of the Foundation “Pass The Baton”. It is with much interest that we were made to understand the reasons and the goals of the Foundation. The problem of organs donation is quite difficult and taboo. It is time to realize we can all be concerned. Everyone’s freedom must be respected. Therefore, let’s push our politicians to legislate rapidly on this subject. Thank you Mrs. OGAY for having provoked this debate and we formulate our best wishes for your Foundation.
